seven days to a better you

Hey all -

I'm on day 8 of my doctor-imposed silence and I'm really starting to get used to it. For those of you who aren't aware, I had some minor vocal-cord surgery just over a week ago, and although everything went well a big part of my recuperation process has been to remain silent as a tomb for the last 8 days.

I've spent the time mostly shut up in my room, writing music on my computer (most of which I'm sure will live in the eternal purgatory of my hard-drive), figuring out how to communicate with my housemates and thanking the gods of the internet for making it possible for me to order a pizza without having to actually talk to a human being. Really I haven't missed talking all that much, but there are a few things that are hard to mime without being misunderstood with awkward results. Like, for example, "Would you like a popsicle". Visualize it. Sigh.

Thanks for all the comments on my blog posts, by the way - nice to know it's being read. I think the next blog I do will be about how I became a fiddle player instead of the orchestra violinist I once thought I'd be - and my mom probably still hopes I'll be someday. Till then!

Thanks for the update Brian...and for putting me off popsicles for a while. o_O I look forward to hearing about your conversion to fiddling. I'm trying to make that cross over now and it's not easy. Happy holidays.

So given your fans and our *ahem* unique sense of humor, I'm giving it a very short while until you're regretting ever making that popsicle comment. Although I must admit, I did laugh enough to thoroughly embarrass myself in front of a crowd of people...which I did. But still, very glad to hear you're doing well and I wish you a very speedy recovery. :)

Does this mean that there will be a few more instrumental songs?

I hope your throat feels better and you recover well. At least its winter and hopefully things are quieter.

Hey brian,
hope the healing goes well and enjoy the rest.
We'll have to remember to have a stash of popcicles for you when you come on the road... maybe even start a new brand of Haggis-pops

Hey, at least there's a positive side to being a temporary mime. Say if somebody really pissed you off and you mouthed the words "Vacuum" which is to them they think your actually saying F YOU but that's just my sense of humor. Also after your recovery you'll maybe appreciate how important your gift of singing and your voice really is. Hope The silence finally breaks, whenever it does, and your your old self again. P.S. I want you guys to play in Las Vegas soon, please... -Mariah

Hey Brian,
Hope all is well in the throat area, and that you'll be up and singing again soon. Hope you had a lovely New Year, hopefully out of silence!
Here's to hoping I can hear you sing in January!

Popsicles, eh? Glad to know that you're doing well - can't wait to catch you guys next time you're in PA!
I'm also looking forward to hearing about your switch to fiddling. I made a similar switch myself a few years back - from classical viola to fiddle, and I haven't regretted a moment of it.

We heard your new "no name" song at ITH's performance on Friday, Janary 4th. How about the title of "Tupelo Tussle"????
Cheers!
